Origami Weekly Presents - April 18, 2010

Our friend Nicolás pointed out that it had been way too long without an Origami Weekly magazine. He helped us out with a nice article describing the fairly simple design process of his excellent Pillbug.

Pillbug - Nicolás Gajardo Henríquez

Hope you enjoy learning some new things. I know I did!

  1. A very nice pillbug, and a nice article that, as someone that doesn't do math well, will take a long time to digest! However, a systematic issue:

The pillbug is a type of centipede so it has a large number of legs.

Um, no...pillbugs are isopods; centipedes are myriapods. The group Isopoda is within the larger group Crustacea -- the pillbug group is a smaller group within the larger group that also includes crabs, lobsters, shrimp, stomatopods (mantis shrimp), and barnacles. Myriapoda -- the group that includes centipedes (Chilopoda) and millipedes (Diplopoda) -- is only distantly related. Both crustaceans and myriapods are arthropods (within the group Arthropoda), as are insects, arachnids, and trilobites, as well as several things most people have never heard of. As an analogy, isopods are about as far from myriapods within the Arthropoda as humans are from sparrows within Vertebrata. See here for more details.

  5. thanks for uploading and sharing

but I think that is not a nice way to change article title randomly

since you have used "origami weekly 2010 - week xx" before, I think it is better to follow this style

  6. another reply: there exist many "origami design" articles, but very little on "how to fold a complex cp". Anybody any suggestions? Thanks
